President, Executive Creative Director
Jo-Anne leads Thorburn and brings a strategic, thoughtful perspective to clients. A mix of fearless and pragmatic, her methodology is to dig into technology, popular culture, the arts, world travels, the soul of a brand and its beliefs, because revealing a brand’s beliefs attracts like-minded prospects who share those same beliefs. Jo-Anne’s also a bit of a geek; she started working on intranet and websites back when Mr. Gore bandied about the term “information superhighway.” Previously, Jo-Anne led teams of 300 creatives, planners, digital, mobile and media strategists from London to Australia as SVP, global chief creative officer for Aimia working on brands like British Airways, Visa, Guinness and Volvo. She was SVP, ECD for McCann, managing General Mills and Domino’s Pizza, and SVP, GCD managing Target, Maserati and U.S. Bank. Her work has won over 350 interactive, design and advertising awards, including AdWeek’s Buzz Award for Best Integrated Campaign and Ad Age Magazine’s “Most Memorable Campaign” for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Jo-Anne has a master’s in business communications from the University of St. Thomas-Opus School of Business and teaches creative strategy in the MBA program at St. Catherine University. Jo-Anne loves travel and new cultures, and she has no fear of getting lost. She and her daughter run Rayebird, a B Corp where 100% of net profits are donated to efforts to prevent human trafficking.
